BUILDING PERMITS; are issued through the Building/Zoning Department for all new construction and for repairs and renovations. The Building Department emphasizes safety. The Department also checks to insure that contractors and subcontractors meet State requirements and have a town business license.  Building Department 951-4638/4666/4650

BURNING; of trash is prohibited in the town of Lexington.

WATER/SEWER; service is provided by the town of Lexington based on your consumption. There is a non-refundable application fee of $20. Payment of Water/Sewer bills is due by the 15th of the month. A $5 late fee is added after the 15th. If payment is not received by 9a.m. on the 24th, the service will be cut-off, and a $30 reconnection fee will be imposed before the customer can be reconnected.

​SANITATION SERVICES; is provided by the town of Lexington, Westbrook Trash/Recycling/Yard Debris Pickup Day: Tuesday (have everything to curb by 7am)
Garbage Holidays: New Year's Day, July 4, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Our garbage shouldn't be affected at all unless one of those four days falls on Tuesday.

RECYCLING; is a priority. The town provides a recycling container delivered by the hauling contractor. The following items are accepted:  Glass: brown, clear or green; Cans:  bi-metal or aluminum;  Plastic: any household plastic with a number 1-7 on the bottom;  Newspapers, newspaper inserts and magazines. Recycling is picked up every other Tuesday.

PROPERTY TAXES; are levied on real estate, automobiles, boats, and trailers. Town residents pay both Town and County taxes. Tax notices on real estate are mailed in November and are due January 15th. Lexington County bills and collects both Town & County taxes and then transfers the Town’s taxes to the Town. County Assessment/Evaluation 359-8190; Treasurers Office 359-8217.

Driver’s License ; with a valid driver’s license from another state, a new resident has 90 days to obtain a S.C. Driver’s License. You must pass a vision and traffic laws exam, but do not need to take a driving test. A copy of the S.C. Driver’s Manual can be obtained from the Vehicle Services office on Park Road, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. A Beginners Permit or Provisional License can be acquired at age 15, a Restricted License at age 16 and a Regular License at age 17. Vision, traffic laws and driving tests are required. (NOTE: A new resident of South Carolina has 45 days in which to register vehicles.)

AUTOMOBILE LICENSE; to obtain license plates, take your title or current registration to the auditors office on the second floor of the County Administration Building on South Lake Drive in Lexington to get your tax rate. Take this to the first floor of the Treasurers office and pay the tax. When that is complete take a copy of your tax receipt, your insurance policy number and agents name, current registration and title, and a check or money to pay for the registration to the S.C. Motor Vehicles Division on Park Road in Lexington. Once you have transferred your vehicle to South Carolina, property tax payments and registration renewals may be made by mail.

HOSPITALS; serving the Midlands is the Lexington Medical Center, 2720 Sunset Blvd., Route 378 & I-26, West Columbia, 791-2000. Baptist Medical Center is located at Taylor and Marion Streets in Columbia, 771-5010. Palmetto Richland is located at 5 Richland Medical Park, Columbia, 434-7000.
